If you flew your horse with Alex Nichols Agency, and your horse shipment was charged tariffs, now ruled as illegal by the Supreme Court – Yes! You will receive a refund!
Thankfully, we are a nationally licensed customs broker and will file directly with U.S. Customs for refunds. You don’t have to lift a finger! Here is what to expect:
If your horse was imported during the time the tariffs were in effect (April 2025 – Feb 2026), we will file for a refund directly with U.S. Customs.
Once we receive the refund, minus a processing fee, we will send you a payment.
How will I know if my imported horse(s) will have a duty refund?
We send letters to those whose horse imports qualify for a refund once we have successfully filed with U.S. Customs. This is expected to occur by mid-May.
How long will the refund filing process take?
US Customs is building a new system to process refund requests, expected to be ready by the end of April 2026. Once the new system is ready and we know the requirements, we will file for the refunds as soon as possible. We are not sure how long it will take until the refunds are sent to us.
What form of payment will be used to send the refund?
We will confirm the name and address of the recipient of the check in the letter we send you.
Can you assist with filing for a refund if I used another company to ship my horse?
Unfortunately, we can only file refunds for shipments handled by Alex Nichols Agency.
Are there tariffs still in effect that replaced those that were ruled illegal?
Yes, new tariffs were put in place on February 26 that replace the previous tariffs. For horses coming from the EU, the tariff remains 10%.
